As part of a 15-person application-only Boston University College of Communication class in partnership with GBH, my team and I investigated how Boston's iconic Freedom Trail stops have connections to slavery. My team specifically looked into the Massachusetts State House and spent four months interviewing multiple historians and combing through numerous 18th-century documents. While the article shows only a small sliver of what we were able to uncover, it's a step in the right direction toward uncovering the truth behind Boston's history.

The Contrarian

As part of a Boston University Data Journalism class, we researched and investigated the lack of updated Brady Lists in each MA county and exposed decades of misconduct by more than 750 Mass police and law enforcement employees. My team looked specifically into the MA attorney general's office for this investigation.

For this investigation, I interviewed four BU summer program assistants and three BU administrators about the Warren Towers living conditions for the university's high school summer programs. Warren Towers is not equipped with air conditioning, making it unpleasant to live in during the summer in 90-degree heat. Many of the PAs I interviewed complained about the lack of compensation and said multiple high school students were rushed to the hospital because of heat strokes. The university announced changes to the program including condensing the program’s duration, increasing the amount of cooling stations in Warren Towers, moving back dates to avoid a heatwave, and increasing pay for PAs.
